Why eat at L’Alchimie restaurant in Bayeux?
Is the L’Alchimie restaurant in Bayeux worth it? Our opinion
In our opinion, L’Alchimie is undoubtedly a very good address in Bayeux! Not only is the food very tasty, but it’s also very well located, right in the heart of the historic center, just a stone’s throw from the town’s main tourist attractions:
- the Bayeux Tapestry Museum,
- Notre-Dame de Bayeux Cathedral,
- or the Baron Gérard Museum of Art and History (MAHB).
What we appreciated:
- fresh and seasonal products in our plates,
- the chic, cosy and warm setting,
- the desserts (yes, we even had 2!).
What you will eat
The menu, which gives pride of place to seafood, is varied and above all creative! From starters to desserts, including the cheese – reblochon stuffed like nougat in a spice crust – the chef’s inventiveness and attention to detail are evident in every dish. A remarkable job of combining flavors from bitter to salty, our meal was a real pleasure from starter to dessert.
Some quite original combinations of products may well surprise you, but above all, become a real firework in the mouth! We’re not far from molecular cuisine.
What we ate:
- Appetizer: red saffron soup, spaghetti squash and smoked duck breast.
- Main course: fillet of sea bream, celery tagliatelle, green beans, Granny Smith vinaigrette and Yuzu pearls.
- Desserts: like a chocolate bar, caramel chocolate mousse coated with milk chocolate and peanuts and peanut crunch / carrot cake with autumn spices, ganache and white chocolate crunch, lime and orange notes.
As we couldn’t decide between the 2 desserts, we took both. Without any regrets of course, it was so good!
All equally well prepared, meat and vegetarian dishes are also on the menu.

The Bayeux Tapestry, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is on display in the town’s former Major Seminary, or former Catholic college. Also, this exceptional embroidery tells thestory of the conquest of England in the 11th century by the Duke of Normandy, William the Conqueror. The Bayeux Tapestry is 68 meters long and about 70 cm wide, 50 cm of which are devoted to the embroidery itself. It is a didactic narrative in 58 scenes based on the model of a stained glass window. The Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Bayeux is a centerpiece of the Old Bayeux circuit. With its medieval architecture, its stained glass windows, its crypt as well as its Romanesque and Gothic styles, it is a place not to be missed.
