Visiting Rouen in winter: is it worth it?
Our review
Yes, visiting Rouen in winter is absolutely worth it! Most tourist attractions remain open to the public. You can visit the Gros-Horloge, Rouen’s famous cathedral, stroll through the historic center and discover the story of Joan of Arc. We enjoyed the special atmosphere of the city during this season. You’ll enjoy a more peaceful atmosphere, and as long as you’re warmly dressed and have something to protect you from the rain, you’ll have a great time!

Benefits
- The atmosphere is calmer
- Fewer tourists at the main attractions
- Discover the charm of the city by night
- It’s even nicer to warm up in a tea room
- During the festive season, the town is beautifully decorated and you’ll discover a Christmas Market.

Disadvantages
- Cool temperatures
- The days are shorter (but that adds to the atmosphere, in our opinion).
- More chance of rain
- Tourist attractions close earlier in the day

Option 2: near the station

Weather, temperatures and conditions
The winter months are the coldest of the year in Rouen. The average temperature during this period is 4.5 to 5°C, with lows around 1.5 to 2°C. You’ll need to cover up with a good coat, scarf, gloves and hat.
It rains more than in summer, but you can also enjoy beautiful sunny days. As it’s winter, the days are shorter. This allows you to discover the city by night or take refuge in a charming tearoom to warm up!

Christmas in Rouen
Enjoy the magic of Christmas in Rouen! The city is decked out in bright, colorful decorations to delight the eyes. We loved strolling through the narrow streets of the historic center, where the scent of mulled wine wafts through the air. A charming Christmas Market is set up in front of the Cathedral. Your children will also have the chance to meet Santa Claus! A whole range of celebrations are organized by the town during this period: parade, Normandy ugly Christmas sweater championship, Gala Glacé, frosty afternoons, ice rink, creative workshops, storytelling and shows… enough to enchant young and old alike!
