Hidden in the heart of the ramparts of Mont-Saint-Michel, the hotel La Croix Blanche offers some rooms with a view on the bay for an exceptional night.
In this article, we propose you a return in images on our stay in the hotel with our review and all the practical information for you also, to relax in this beautiful hotel!
This review is completely independent, we stayed anonymously and paid our bill in full.
Why stay at hotel La Croix Blanche
Among the hotel offer of the Mont-Saint-Michel, the hotel La Croix Blanche is really one of our favorites for several reasons:
- For its position above the ramparts
The building of the hotel la Croix Blanche is between the main street and the ramparts of the walled city.
For those who have a room with a sea view (like us), you can see the towers and the walkway under your window. And the view is infinite with the bay, and then continental France.
- For its access via the ramparts
To access the hotel from the ramparts, one has the impression of entering a secret place.
You have to go down between buildings and then go up to the rooms.
An adventure in itself.
Sorry, we forgot to take a picture of this access area. This way, you will be surprised…
- For the price
This may not be true all the time, but when we booked our room, it was one of the best value options to have a view of the bay outward. And it seems to me that the rooms without sea view were also the cheapest.
We can’t guarantee that it will be the same for your dates.
Be careful, as for all the hotels in the city, the access is not easy (shuttle + steps on cobblestones + stairs). It is therefore better to come with a small bag to carry your things.

OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Normandy
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- Choose a car that is comfortable enough (distances can be long) but compact (some parking lots and villages are narrow).
- Think of thecomplete insurance (some roads are tortuous and narrow).
- There is a lot of demand, book it early.
Is the La Croix Blanche hotel worth it? Our review
Yes, absolutely.
First of all, spending the night on the Mont-Saint-Michel, intramuros, is a unique experience.
Even if the hotels are a little less luxurious than all around the bay(see all options), the adventure is exceptional. Walking through the medieval streets at night, once the crowds have gone, is like a trip back in time (or a Harry Potter adventure…).
The room
The hotel has 9 rooms.
Our room was simple, but practical.
We were at the top of the building. We had to climb a lot of stairs but it was worth it!
As a result, the room was very bright, with an impressive view of the sand and the land.
On the whole, the rooms on Mont-Saint-Michel cannot be very big, because the houses are old.
We did not feel cramped.
The bedding was good.

The bathroom
The bathroom was again simple and small but practical.
The shower had enough pressure and there was a towel warmer.
The small blue tiles looked great, it gave a little character to a very neutral decoration.
A MAGICAL EXPERIENCE AT Mont-Saint-Michel

Step 3: decide where to sleep
The breakfast
The White Cross Hotel does not serve breakfast in its building.
The buffet is shared with the Auberge Saint-Pierre.
Breakfast is served on the first floor of the house, above the restaurant.
The room is absolutely beautiful with the fireplaces, the old exposed stones, the beams, the half-timbering and the cross windows.
We were alone for an early lunch in this room and really enjoyed walking around to discover all the details.
Food wise it was not bad. There was a great variety of sweet and savory foods: eggs, cold cuts, cheese, fruit, pastries, pancakes, yogurt, compotes… It is one of the most varied we have had around Mont-Saint-Michel.

The equipment
No special facilities: there is no room in this village!
The wifi was pretty good from our room.
However, due to the fact that it is a very old house with thick walls and other construction details, the internet connection is not very good in the breakfast room. No signal is transmitted. But it’s the best way to feel like you’re traveling back in time!
Restaurant La Croix Blanche
La Croix Blanche has 2 restaurants: the pancake and crepe corner, open for lunch.
And the panoramic restaurant with a cuisine composed of regional specialties, also open in the evening.
Please note that the restaurant is closed in low season.

THE SAME MISTAKE WE MADE
On one of our last trips to Europe, a hacker stole our credit card details while we were using a hotel WiFi.
So our trip began with a “card blocked” call… Not funny at all!

Our top 3 things to do at Mont-Saint-Michel
Walk to the mount
Many people rush inside the Mont. They get out of their car, get on the shuttle and follow the people inside. But, in our opinion, choosing to walk there from the parking lots is the best option.
The path is flat and easy. Count 40min to 50min of walking.
Enjoy the sea air and the changing landscape as you approach the mountain; with the dam, fields, sand…
The anticipation makes the experience even better!
Visit the Abbey
The jewel of Mont-Saint-Michel is of course the abbey built over the centuries on top of this rocky island.
It is a marvel of architecture and history.
It is particularly known for its cloister built in the 13th century, as if suspended between sky and sea.
Be careful, there are a lot of stairs to visit it.
And you have to book your visit before – bookhere

Explore the ramparts
In addition to the main street and the abbey, do not miss the ramparts.
We recommend that when you arrive at Mont-Saint-Michel, you go up to the abbey by the ramparts and come back down by the main street or other alleys.
Going up the covered way offers you views of the village, the roofs, the abbey and the bay. Probably our favorite part of the visit to the Mont outside the abbey.
