Along the main street, enter another universe. The Auberge Saint Pierre hotel is located in a 15th century building: beams, half-timbering… sleeping in this hotel in the heart of Mont-Saint-Michel is a unique experience, like a trip back in time.
In this article, we propose you a return in images on our experience in the hotel with our opinion and all the practical information for you also, to relax in this beautiful hotel!
This review is completely independent, we stayed anonymously and paid our bill in full.
Why stay at the Auberge Saint Pierre
Among the hotel offer around the Mont-Saint-Michel, the Saint Pierre hotel is really one of our favorites for several reasons:
- For its historical charm
The main house is half-timbered with old stones, beams and fireplaces… it is quite an experience to enter and discover it.
Most of the rooms have a lot of charm with their cross windows.
- For the location
The Auberge Saint Pierre is located on the mountain, in the heart of the main street.
Impossible to miss it, it is one of the institutions of the village.
- For the staff
In any case, when we arrived and left, the team was really welcoming and caring.
And we could observe their infinite patience with customers who complained about everything (many people would like normal access conditions while being on a rocky mountain built in the Middle Ages…no, there is no elevator!).

OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Normandy
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- Choose a car that is comfortable enough (distances can be long) but compact (some parking lots and villages are narrow).
- Think of thecomplete insurance (some roads are tortuous and narrow).
- There is a lot of demand, book it early.
Is the Saint Pierre Hotel worth it? Our review
Yes, absolutely.
First of all, spending the night on the Mont-Saint-Michel, intramuros, is a unique experience.
Even if the hotels are a little less luxurious, the adventure is exceptional. Walking through the medieval streets at night, once the crowds have gone, is like a trip back in time (or a Harry Potter adventure…).
Decoration and ambiance – The Room
Although not original, most of the rooms have been decorated to respect the historical aspect of the inn: beams, half-timbered effects and cross windows (or similar).
We really liked the charm of our room, which also had 2 windows which gave more light in these narrow streets.
On the other hand, you should know that unlike other hotels on the Mont-Saint-Michel, the Saint Pierre, only some rooms have a view on the bay. The others overlook the alleys.
Some rooms are in the building above the restaurant while others are in the Logis du Chapeau Blanc (in old fishermen’s houses in the surrounding streets). There are even more steps to get there.

The bathroom
The bathroom in our room had a bathtub.
It was clean and functional.
Of course, it was not very big but that is normal in this kind of old house.
Frankly, we were even surprised by the comfort that could be created in such a historic place.
A MAGICAL EXPERIENCE AT Mont-Saint-Michel
Step 1: Plan and get there
Step 3: decide where to sleep
The breakfast
Breakfast is served on the first floor of the house, above the restaurant.
The room is absolutely beautiful with the fireplaces, the old exposed stones, the beams, the half-timbering and the cross windows.
We were alone for an early lunch in this room and really enjoyed walking around to discover all the details.
Food wise it was not bad. There was a wide variety of sweet and savory: eggs, cold cuts, cheese, fruit, pastries, pancakes, yogurt, compotes … It is one of the most varied we have had around Mont-Saint-Michel.
The equipment
No special facilities: there is no room in this village!
Just a small note. Because it is a very old house with thick walls and other construction details, the wifi and 4G/5G are not great.
Moreover, in the breakfast room, no signal is transmitted. But it’s the best way to feel like you’re traveling back in time!
History
The half-timbered building dates from the 15th century. It is classified as a historical monument since 1938.
The name refers to Saint Peter, the patron saint of fishermen, as does the church of Saint Peter, a little further up the street (which dates from the 15th and 16th centuries).
Restaurant
The restaurant Auberge Saint Pierre is also very well known on the Mont-Saint-Michel. It is located just below the hotel.
In a rustic atmosphere (exposed stones, Norman cupboard, wood and floor tiles), you can have a decent dinner and it is one of the rare restaurants of the Mont-Saint-Michel open quite late in the evening (until 9pm) and every day of the week.
The brasserie-style menu is quite classic and offers 3 levels of menu depending on appetite and budget.

THE SAME MISTAKE WE MADE
On one of our last trips to Europe, a hacker stole our credit card details while we were using a hotel WiFi.
So our trip began with a “card blocked” call… Not funny at all!

Our top 3 things to do at Mont-Saint-Michel
Walk to the mount
Many people rush inside the Mont. They get out of their car, get on the shuttle and follow the people inside. But, in our opinion, choosing to walk there from the parking lots is the best option.
The path is flat and easy. Count 40min to 50min of walking.
Enjoy the sea air and the changing landscape as you approach the mountain; with the dam, fields, sand…
The anticipation makes the experience even better!
Visit the Abbey
The jewel of Mont-Saint-Michel is of course the abbey built over the centuries on top of this rocky island.
It is a marvel of architecture and history.
It is particularly known for its cloister built in the 13th century, as if suspended between sky and sea.
Be careful, there are a lot of stairs to visit it.
And you have to book your visit before – bookhere

Explore the ramparts
In addition to the main street and the abbey, do not miss the ramparts.
We recommend that when you arrive at Mont-Saint-Michel, you go up to the abbey by the ramparts and come back down by the main street or other alleys.
Going up the covered way offers you views of the village, the roofs, the abbey and the bay. Probably our favorite part of the visit to the Mont outside the abbey.
