A little history
This boutique workshop, founded in 2018, in the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel has its own know-how to guarantee the artisanal production of salted butter caramels.
Maison Pèlerin selects its ingredients, from short circuits, from producers ranging from abbeys to monasteries in the region. The confectionery has also established a partnership with a salt worker who works in the salt marshes to use salt from Guérande. The boutique workshop plans to export its products abroad, Tokyo and New York will be the next cities where the handcrafted wonders of Maison Pèlerin will be sold.
Did you know that Maison Pèlerin produces 40 tons of caramels per year?
The artisan Anthony Guérin, who owns the Maison Pèlerin, has made this place a real showcase for local producers, with one priority: to provide you with quality above all!

All kinds of caramels at the artisanal workshop…
Maison Pèlerin’s caramel melts delicately in your mouth, you won’t be able to resist it! Offered in different forms (soft, in bulk, in jars, in bags, in boxes, in cases), the salted butter caramel of this workshop store is manufactured in the respect of the French tradition and the environment by limiting the excess of packaging. Feel like a little tasting?
You like chocolate and caramel but you can’t choose between the two? The craftsman Anthony Guérin also thought of you with his “cailloux du mont”, delicious caramel balls coated with chocolate. We loved it! The boxes are also very elegant and will make great gift ideas.
…and chocolate
Chocolate is also one of the flagship products of Maison Pèlerin with, for example, the “balls of the bay”. The bars also dress the stalls of the store: dark chocolate, milk chocolate, hazelnut chocolate… There is something for everyone!
Showing a unique know-how at the Maison Pèlerin
Design of products in front of you in the window
What makes Maison Pèlerin unique? His workshop, visible from the store, where you can admire the secrets of confectionery making and each step of the creation process. We really liked this very authentic, playful and transparent aspect that really makes you want to taste the products at the end!
A workshop that is both modern and authentic
The French tradition of confectionery making requires that the cooking temperatures of sugar be respected according to its use. For example, if you prefer the caramel to be soft, the sugar should not cook above 129°. On the other hand between 107° and 110°, we will be rather on the cream caramel with salted butter more unctuous. Yummy!
Finally, between 135° and 150°, the craftsman will be able to conceive tender or dry nougat according to the level of temperature. It’s all about precision!
In addition to the show of the artisans at work in the window, educational videos are shown in the store to better understand the details of the manufacturing steps.

Local products for all tastes
Delicacies and specialties of Normandy
Lots of choices in this artisanal confectionery, we really wanted to taste and buy everything! In addition to caramels and chocolates, Maison Pèlerin offers a lot of Norman specialties: nougat, miquelots (those delicious caramel and chocolate cookies) but also black garlic, flavored vinegar or cider. It is really a great showcase for local producers.
Our favorite: black garlic from the Mont-Saint-Michel Bay! And we tasted some on the spot, its taste is quite sweet and syrupy.
Monastic products, yes you read that right!
Monastic craftsmanship is the know-how of monasteries and abbeys, communities that produce a wide variety of products in France in both savory and sweet foods.
Thus, the Maison Pèlerin honors their specialties ranging from chocolate bars, through preparations for entremets with various flavors or pâté de campagne and cider from the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel.
Second favorite: the cookies of the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel. These shortbreads are light, really delicious and combine salted butter caramel and chocolate.

Our top 3 things to do at Mont-Saint-Michel
Walk to the mount
Many people rush inside the Mont. They get out of their car, get on the shuttle and follow the people inside. But, in our opinion, choosing to walk there from the parking lots is the best option.
The path is flat and easy. Count 40min to 50min of walking.
Enjoy the sea air and the changing landscape as you approach the mountain; with the dam, fields, sand…
The anticipation makes the experience even better!
Visit the Abbey
The jewel of Mont-Saint-Michel is of course the abbey built over the centuries on top of this rocky island.
It is a marvel of architecture and history.
It is particularly known for its cloister built in the 13th century, as if suspended between sky and sea.
Be careful, there are a lot of stairs to visit it.

Explore the ramparts
In addition to the main street and the abbey, do not miss the ramparts.
We recommend that when you arrive at Mont-Saint-Michel, you go up to the abbey by the ramparts and come back down by the main street or other alleys.
Going up the covered way offers you views of the village, the roofs, the abbey and the bay. Probably our favorite part of the visit to the Mont outside the abbey.
