For us, the Domaine de Bayeux hotel was a small cocoon of refinement and calm, where to recharge our batteries after long days of exploring.
In this eighteenth century building, it is very pleasant to rest in your room, in the living room or in the park. A very good choice if you spend a night or a few days in Bayeux!
In this article, we propose to you to discover our experience in images, our opinion and all the practical information on this place to benefit the maximum of your stay on the spot.

Why stay at the Domaine de Bayeux hotel?
Bayeux has a good supply of accommodation in the historic center or nearby. The Domaine de Bayeux hotel is one of the best places to stay in this beautiful Norman town.
Why we liked this place:
- For its authenticity:
The hotel is located in a house built in 1792 and restored in 1911.
Inside, we liked the woodwork, especially in the small living room, the beautiful staircase and the colorful tiles in some places.
The decor is very refined. We had the heart blow by discovering in the hotel.
And the rooms combine classic charm with contemporary touches.
- For its spacious rooms:
At the Domaine de Bayeux, there is something for everyone.
In the main building, you will enjoy beautiful floors, weathered woodwork and a classic, elegant decor.
And if you choose a room in the Extension du Verger, you will find yourself in a more contemporary setting with large bay windows.
We chose a superior room in the main building and enjoyed all the space it offered.
- For its quietness at 5min from the center:
The building is surrounded by a large French park with trees, flowers and bushes.
It’s very relaxing to enjoy such a quiet place when you are only 5 to 10min walk from the tourist places.
See availability at the Domaine de Bayeux hotel and make reservations.
Is the Domaine de Bayeux hotel worth it?
Yes. Absolutely.
As you could read in our top 3 reasons, we really enjoyed our stay.
It is a refined and quiet place to stay while being very close to the attractions:
- The Bayeux Tapestry Museum is only 5 minutes away on foot
- The cathedral of Bayeux is 8 minutes away on foot
- and the train station is a 5 minute walk away
OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Normandy
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- Choose a car that is comfortable enough (distances can be long) but compact (some parking lots and villages are narrow).
- Think of thecomplete insurance (some roads are tortuous and narrow).
- There is a lot of demand, book it early.
Room in the main building
We chose a superior room in the main building.
It was on the second floor without an elevator, but the stairs were not difficult.
The first impression was excellent: the room is spacious and tastefully decorated.
It’s classic and modern while still blending well with the historical side.
What we particularly like is that they didn’t overdo the decorating. Not too much furniture and not too many decorations on the walls. It’s very well balanced.
And we also loved the high ceilings and the large windows, one of which overlooks the park.
Bathroom
The bathroom was also a nice surprise.
In our room, it was really spacious with a surprising arrangement.
This is the first time we saw the bathtub between the 2 basins like this. The effect is successful (our photo does not do it justice).

The lounge
On the first floor there is a beautiful lounge that is freely accessible to all hotel guests.
This is the most beautiful room in the house.
The woodwork is exceptional, whether it is the majestic fireplace or the beams.
The room overlooks the park and its magnificent trees. Some are centenarians, if we are not mistaken.
You will find free coffee and other hot drinks.
There is no bar, but drinks are available for sale in a cooler.
The park
When you see the size of the hotel grounds and the calm that reigns there, it is hard to imagine that we are in Bayeux, in the center.
We think we are in the country. But that’s also why we love Bayeux, one of our favorite cities in Normandy.
See availability at the Domaine de Bayeux hotel and make reservations.
The rooms at the end of the park
At the end of the park, there are also other rooms in a more modern building but which remains discreet.
If air conditioning is essential for you, you should choose these rooms. But we are in Normandy, air conditioning is really not essential…
The large windows overlook the other part of the park.
Do not make
THE SAME MISTAKE WE MADE
On one of our last trips to Europe, a hacker stole our credit card details while we were using a hotel WiFi.
So our trip began with a “card blocked” call… Not funny at all!
Learn from our mistake, make a small VPN investment to surf without worry.
The breakfast
Breakfast is served in a room on the first floor of the main building.
The room is very pleasant.
There are low tables and some high tables, depending on what you prefer.
Breakfast is served as a buffet.
You will find cereals, cold cuts, cheese, fruits, bread… all the classics.
We particularly appreciated the homemade pudding, the little pancakes, the little waffles… and the chouquettes that were there that day (little French choux that reminds us of our snacks when we were kids.

Our top 3 things to do in Bayeux
Stroll through the alleys of the historic center
In a setting that is both authentic and warm, we were seduced by the charm of the historic heart of Bayeux. Indeed, the medieval architecture is well preserved. Take the time to stroll through the small streets of the center!
There is a lot to see while walking in Old Bayeux:
- the old half-timbered houses, mansions or manor houses with turrets all over downtown,
- the cobbled streets where their windows of craftsmen anddelicatessens display local products will surely make you envious,
- the tourist wonders of the city remained intact despite the Second World War.
You will also have the possibility to visit Bayeux:
- by taking the little tourist train of the city,
- by following the explanatory markers and the bronze nails on the path of the Old Bayeux walking tour.
Visit the Bayeux Tapestry Museum
The Bayeux Tapestry, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is on display in the town’s former Major Seminary, or former Catholic college. Also, this exceptional embroidery tells thestory of the conquest of England in the 11th century by the Duke of Normandy, William the Conqueror. The Bayeux Tapestry is 68 meters long and about 70 cm wide, 50 cm of which are devoted to the embroidery itself. It is a didactic narrative in 58 scenes based on the model of a stained glass window. Historically, the design of this narrative embroidery was commissioned to adorn the nave of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Bayeux.
Read our article dedicated to the Bayeux Tapestry with many photos and tips to make the most of your visit.
Visit the Notre-Dame de Bayeux Cathedral
The Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Bayeux is a centerpiece of the Old Bayeux circuit. With its medieval architecture, its stained glass windows, its crypt as well as its Romanesque and Gothic styles, it is a place not to be missed. The famous Bayeux Tapestry would have been embroidered in the 11th century to decorate its nave. If you go down into the crypt of the cathedral, be sure to look up to see the 15th century frescoes of the musical angels. In short, a listed monument not to be missed, illuminated from sunset onwards, which is also one of the stops on the Bayeux tourist train.
