FAQ — Parking in Honfleur

Is it hard to park in Honfleur?

Yes, it’s best to plan ahead for your arrival in Honfleur. Since July 2026, the city has tightened its parking regulations: the large Naturospace parking lot, which had long been free, now charges a fee. We saw firsthand that this reform is really changing people’s habits, even for regular visitors who were still counting on a few free spots. During peak season, on weekends, or on holidays, we’ve noticed that the parking lots in the city center fill up by 10 a.m., which means you have to arrive early or wait until the evening. You’ll save time by choosing a parking spot before you leave rather than trying to figure it out when you get there.

Parking in Honfleur: Summary

Careful street parking

On-street parking is available in Honfleur, but it is still rare in the historic center due to the narrow, cobblestone medieval streets. The city has implemented a color-coded zone system: the red zone in the city center charges by the hour 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for a maximum of 24 hours, while the orange zone on the immediate outskirts charges by the hour from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Blue zones requiring a European parking disc round out the system, with time limits of 30 or 90 minutes depending on the street. We recommend that you always check the color of the parking lines before parking, and we advise you to keep your ticket or parking disc in plain view.

Free parking

Free services have become much harder to find in Honfleur. Parking at Naturospace and the Jardin des Personnalités, which used to be free, became a paid service on July 1, 2026, in order to relieve traffic congestion in the city center. There is, however, one interesting option that we’re happy to recommend: the parking lot at Butin Beach, at the western entrance to the city, remains free year-round. In addition, most surface parking lots are free at night, generally from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., with the exception of the Bassin du Centre. We’ll go into more detail about all these options and their respective limitations later on, so keep these schedules in mind if you’re arriving late at night.

Honfleur - Free Parking

The main parking lots for tourists

  • Bassin du Centre Parking Lot – Outdoor, 24 hours a day, paid parking
The closest to the Vieux Bassin (600 seats)
  • Bassin de l’Est Parking Lot – Outdoor, 24 hours a day, paid parking
Great value all-day pass (approximately 800 seats)
  • Sainte-Catherine Parking Lot – Outdoor, paid parking from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In the heart of the historic district (177 seats)
  • Naturospace Parking Lot – Outdoor, paid parking
To the west, along the promenade (240 spaces)

Essential tips

  • During peak season, on weekends, and on holidays, the downtown parking lots are full by 10 a.m. We strongly recommend arriving before 9:30 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m.
  • Never enter “Honfleur” or “downtown” into your GPS: enter the name of your chosen parking lot directly—for example, Parking de l’Est—to avoid dead ends and pedestrian zones.
  • If you’re staying at a hotel or in a rental in the city center, drop off your luggage first, then go park at the Parking de l’Est, which is the most economical option for a 24-hour stay.
  • Do not leave any objects or luggage visible inside the vehicle. Put all your belongings in the locked trunk before arriving at your destination

Accommodation with parking: our recommendations

If you want to make your stay easier, choose a place to stay that offers parking. Some are located right in the heart of the historic district and offer the rare amenity of private parking, while others are further out or in neighboring towns.

Where to park to get closer to specific locations in Honfleur

Honfleur is best explored on foot, but some areas are located on the outskirts of the historic center. Here are our recommendations for each area of interest.

Where to Park When Visiting the Vieux Bassin

If you want to stroll around the Vieux Bassin and head to the Tourist Office, the Bassin du Centre parking lot is the most convenient option. Its exit is less than a 2-minute walk from the docks, making it the closest drop-off point to the port. We particularly appreciate its close proximity to the restaurant patios, even though this location comes at a high price compared to other parking lots in the city. In fact, we suggest you reserve this option for short stays, when budget is less of a concern than proximity. You can also choose the Sainte-Catherine Parking Lot if you’d rather combine your visit with a trip to the nearby historic district.

Honfleur - Where to Park to Visit the Old Harbor

Where to Park When Visiting the Sainte-Catherine Neighborhood

The neighborhood aroundSainte-Catherine Church and the Enclos is home to a significant portion of the city’s medieval heritage. To get as close as possible, there are two main options:

  • Sainte-Catherine Parking Lot — right at the foot of the historic district; it’s just a few meters to the wooden church
  • Cours des Fossés Parking Lot — at the entrance to the city on the Saint-Léonard side, a short walk to the center

Where can I park to visit Butin Beach?

To get to Butin Beach, located at the western entrance to the city along the Route de Trouville, the parking lot of the same name is the obvious choice: it’s free year-round, and you can leave your car there for as long as you like. From the parking lot, it’s about a 15-minute walk along the seawall to the harbor—a pleasant stroll, though it gets crowded quickly in the summer.

Where can I park for free in Honfleur?

Since the reform of July 2026, free access has all but disappeared from the immediate vicinity of the historic center. Here, we present the few remaining alternatives, while being transparent about their respective limitations.

  • Butin Beach Parking Lot: Free year-round, at the westernmost end along the road to Trouville. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the harbor—a route that gets crowded quickly in the summer
  • Free overnight street parking: surface parking lots such as Sainte-Catherine and Cours des Fossés, as well as color-coded paid parking zones, are completely free from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
  • Outlying residential areas: A few streets in the hills or on the east side—such as Rue Guillaume de Beaulieu (except on Saturdays)—still offer free on-street parking. Be aware of blue zones that require a parking disc

Where should you avoid parking in Honfleur?

Parking regulations in Honfleur are strict, especially during the tourist season. It’s best to be aware of the pitfalls before parking your car just anywhere, or you could face fines or have your car towed.

  • The medieval heart of the city (the Sainte-Catherine and Enclos neighborhoods): narrow streets, unevenly paved, often pedestrian-only, with blind spots that are difficult for family cars or SUVs to navigate. Looking for a parking spot there is a waste of time, and there’s a real risk of scratching the car’s paint job
  • The area around the Vieux Bassin (Quai Saint-Étienne, Quai Sainte-Catherine): areas where parking is strictly prohibited, reserved for pedestrians and restaurant patios
  • The market area on Saturday morning: several streets that are normally accessible, such as Rue Guillaume de Beaulieu, are off-limits to parking, with vehicles subject to towing starting at dawn
  • The Bassin du Centre parking lot during the Sainte-Catherine Fair: completely closed from mid-November through mid-December, with very heavy traffic in the area during this period

FAQ — Parking in Honfleur

Where can you park in Honfleur without having to walk too far?

The Bassin du Centre parking lot, on Quai Lepaulmier, is the closest option: it’s literally right on the waterfront, less than a 2-minute walk from the Vieux Bassin, the restaurants, and the Tourist Office. The Sainte-Catherine Parking Lot also drops you off in the heart of the historic district, just a few meters from the famous wooden church.

Honfleur - Where to Park Without Having to Walk Too Far

Secure parking lots in Honfleur

The Bassin du Centre parking lot is the only one to offer automatic barriers and continuous video surveillance. The city’s other facilities are open public parking lots without dedicated security personnel. We therefore recommend that you do not leave anything visible inside the vehicle, regardless of which parking lot you choose.

Is there a parking lot in Honfleur that’s open 24 hours a day?

Yes, all of the city’s major parking lots (Bassin du Centre, Bassin de l’Est, Sainte-Catherine, Naturospace, Cours des Fossés) are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via automated payment terminals, although their rates may sometimes apply only during certain hours.

What is the cheapest parking lot in Honfleur?

For short stays of less than 2 hours, the Sainte-Catherine Parking Garage or the Cours des Fossés Parking Garage are still the best options, thanks to their sliding-scale hourly rates and free overnight parking.

Can you reserve a parking spot in advance in Honfleur?

Public parking lots managed by the city do not offer online reservations; access is based solely on availability upon arrival. On the other hand, some local concierge services and high-end hotels offer garage or private parking spaces that can be reserved in advance—a useful solution during peak periods.

Are there electric vehicle charging stations in Honfleur?

Yes. The Sainte-Catherine Parking Lot, the Naturospace Parking Lot, and the Cours des Fossés Parking Lot—the latter of which has two charging stations—all have standard charging stations on site. The Bassin du Centre parking lot does not offer parking directly on-site, but parking meters are located in the immediate vicinity.
