Dining at Restaurant Les Nymphéas in Giverny is a truly bucolic experience. Located opposite the House and Gardens of Claude Monet, we were won over by the quality of its cuisine and its flower-filled setting.

Ideal for a pleasant lunch or snack in the Painters’ Village, the restaurant offers traditional dishes. in the colors of Normandy. Whether you choose to sit on the terrace or indoors, you’ll fall under the spell of Restaurant Les Nymphéas.

In this article, we take you on a tour of the restaurant’s bistronomic table, with photos and an account of our experience.

What you will eat

To whet our appetites, Joël Poupat, Nathalie, Jean-Yves and Margot Bernard welcome us to their charming table on rue Claude Monet, allée principale in Giverny. You’ll enjoy a cuisine that combines land, sea and countryside. Everything we love about Normandy! On the menu: gourmet salads, starters and hot dishes featuring French specialties. The menu even includes a children’s menu that’s sure to please the little ones!

dish

Needless to say, we were delighted with these generous dishes! We have chosen:

  • a (very, very) gourmet Normandy salad with breaded camembert, andouille sausage, pine nuts, apple pieces and bacon,
  • a butcher’s cut in pepper sauce, served with French fries and salad.

If you prefer something sweet, you’ll be pleased to know that the establishment also serves as a tea room. Hot and cold drinks, wines, beers and aperitifs, as well as chocolate fondant with chantilly (which we had for dessert), ice cream sundaes and delicious Normandy or Tatin tarts. So what’s it going to be?

What you will drink

If you’re a wine connoisseur, you’re in for a treat, as the restaurant offers over 20 different wines from France’s finest wine-growing regions. We opted for a glass of Chablis wine, pure, fresh and mineral.

You’ll also be able to choose from a range of hot and cold soft drinks, including juices, soft drinks and sparkling water, plus a selection of local beers and aperitifs.

Restaurant ambience

In the shade of tall trees, white wrought-iron tables and chairs add a touch of elegance to the setting, surrounded by climbing plants and colorful flowers. Settle into this bucolic setting and you’ll be swept even further into the magical atmosphere and artistic effervescence of Giverny.

You can also choose to sit indoors in the uncluttered decor of a large, old-fashioned restaurant with exposed beams, a large main room, high ceilings and burgundy-red furnishings. There’s also a courtyard on the other side of the restaurant once you cross the main hall.

What makes Restaurant Les Nymphéas so famous?

For the past 15 years, La Table des Nymphéas in Giverny has offered its customers an idyllic setting in traditional architecture. The famous home of the painter and gardener, La Maison et les Jardins de Claude Monet, is just a stone’s throw away, and one of the best things to do in Giverny. The quality of the food and the professionalism of the ever-smiling team were spot on. In our opinion, this is one of the best places to eat in the Painters’ Village. We have fond memories of it!
