6. Family beaches in Normandy

Why it’s a must
Normandy offers families two types of coastline, each with its own set of discoveries. To the south, long sandy beaches are ideal for sandcastles, beach games and shallow-water swimming, perfect for the little ones.
Further north, on the Côte d’Albâtre in particular, the pebble beaches offer a completely different spectacle: at low tide, the natural rock pools are transformed into veritable open-air aquariums. Children spend hours watching shrimps, crabs, anemones and small fish trapped by the ebb tide, net in hand and eyes wide open.
Two atmospheres, two types of shoreline, but the same happiness shared by the whole family.

Child-friendly beaches
- Trouville-sur-Mer and its Mickey Mouse club
- Cabourg and its Marcel Proust promenade
- Ouistreham and its nautical activities

Between the vestiges still visible on the sand, interactive museums and memorial sites designed for all ages, there’s no shortage of opportunities to capture their attention.
Here, history is told from a child’s point of view, and questions naturally arise in the face of the traces left by June 6, 1944. It’s also a unique way of passing on the values of courage, solidarity and peace. Whatever their age, children leave with a more concrete and sensitive understanding of this key moment in our history.

Normandy is a land of museums, and many of them have reinvented themselves to appeal to younger visitors. Science, history, nature, art or maritime heritage: there’s no shortage of themes, and no shortage of interactive approaches either. Tactile screens, models to manipulate, sensory experiences, game trails with investigation booklets Many establishments offer scenographies designed to arouse children’s curiosity, rather than leaving them dragging their feet between two display cases.
Some museums take visitors deep into the ocean, others bring to life the daily lives of the Vikings or the Impressionists, while others turn children into scientific apprentices for the duration of a workshop.
