Both modern and authentic, the Château de Bellefontaine is a beautiful, green and elegant place in the heart of Normandy. If you choose to stay there during your visit to Bayeux, alone, as a couple or with your family, you will discover a charming haven of peace. Close to all the marvels offered by the city but also to some green spaces, this old house decorated with taste is for us an accommodation which is worth the detour, that it is for one or more nights!
In this article, we propose to you to discover our experience in images, our opinion and all the practical information on this place to benefit the maximum of your stay on the spot.

Why stay at Hotel Château de Bellefontaine in Bayeux?
Bayeux has a good supply of accommodation in the historic center or nearby. The Château de Bellefontaine is one of the best places to stay in this beautiful Norman town.
Why we liked this place:
- For its authenticity: a 15th century manor house that became a castle at the end of the 18th century, only 10 minutes walk from the Bayeux train station.
- For its architectural and decorative details: it is an old house that is both modern and authentic. Admire the well-preserved moldings and antique wood furniture or the art deco furniture that gives a more modern tone to the common areas.
- For its unforgettable exterior setting: a bucolic garden and a façade illuminated at sunset. Even under the grey sky, we were transported by the charm of the domain.
OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN Normandy
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- Choose a car that is comfortable enough (distances can be long) but compact (some parking lots and villages are narrow).
- Think of thecomplete insurance (some roads are tortuous and narrow).
- There is a lot of demand, book it early.
Is the Château de Bellefontaine worth it?
That’s a big yes! It is a place where young and old alike can find their happiness among all the outdoor activities available in the castle grounds. As we walked through the garden, we also saw the Notre-Dame de Bayeux Cathedral in the distance!
We spent a very pleasant time at the Château de Bellefontaine, especially taking advantage of the beautiful exterior! Beyond the magical setting, the staff was very welcoming and really made our stay easier.

Decoration and atmosphere
In the entrance of the manor, take the time to distinguish the wooden and wrought iron balustrade of the staircase but also on the clock face. Other decorative elements such as the mirror with golden moldings and this 18th century chandelier adorn the room. With an eye for detail, the coat rack was chosen to preserve the harmony between the shapes, colors and elegance of the objects displayed in the lobby before accessing the reception, rooms or dining areas.
We particularly liked the cosy atmosphere of the Château’s bar. The combination of modern furniture with baroque-style sofas and sconces, topped off with contemporary artwork, gives it a unique feel.

Duplex rooms and suites
With its 13 rooms and 6 duplex suites, the Château de Bellefontaine welcomes you in spaces mixing traditional equipment and very modern design! Our duplex suite was a perfect balance of what we were looking for in accommodation: comfort, elegance and practicality. The large French windows gave us a real feeling of airiness and height, with a nice view on the garden of the Castle.
The practical aspect, in the duplex suite we had access to:
- a coffee machine with some capsules,
- a kettle with small tea bags,
- a refrigerator (with minibar for a fee).
No need to carry your hair dryer with you, the Château de Bellefontaine has everything in the bathrooms in addition to towels, hygiene products and bathroom scales. Also, you will have the choice between a walk-in shower on the first floor or a bathtub upstairs! We were more interested in a walk-in shower, and you?
On the first floor, we had a second bathroom and a very spacious second bedroom with a balcony and a view of the manor. If necessary, you can also use a corner to work in peace!

The exterior: from the bucolic garden to children’s games
If, like us, you like green spaces and romantic touches, you will be seduced by the bucolic garden of the Château de Bellefontaine. You can sit on the wrought iron chairs and benches to enjoy the calm and serenity of this magical place.
In the moat of the castle, you may be lucky enough to see a few swans and ducks gracefully strolling by.
Fun for young and old! A plus that will surely entertain your children: the children’s playground with swing, slide, sandbox and playhouse in the middle of the big trees.

THE SAME MISTAKE WE MADE
On one of our last trips to Europe, a hacker stole our credit card details while we were using a hotel WiFi.
So our trip began with a “card blocked” call… Not funny at all!

Tennis and ping-pong
For the racquet sports enthusiasts, a tennis court was set up right behind our duplex suite.
A ping-pong table can also be provided on request. Finally, there are soccer cages in front of the breakfast room that will delight soccer enthusiasts.
The breakfast
Breakfast is served in the back room overlooking the grounds. The windows encircle the room and offer a 180-degree view of the estate’s green surroundings. A nice place to drink our first coffee of the morning!
The breakfast buffet is quite varied: sweet, salty, breads, fruits… We love: the orange juice to squeeze yourself with the orange squeezer!
