The weather is fine. On the coasts and near the cities popular with travellers, temperatures are mild. Further inland, to the south, it’s hot. Winds are light. It’s also one of the clearest months of the year. It’s the perfect time for a walk or a swim.
Visitors are moderately numerous. Rates are therefore more affordable than in summer. This is the ideal time to visit the region.

1. Climate in Normandy in September – weather forecast
Normandy is known for its oceanic climate. This is especially true on the coasts, where most of the holidaymakers’ favorite towns are located. Temperatures are moderate in both winter and summer. Rainfall is frequent in all seasons, but varies according to local relief and year.
September is a mild month on the coast. We enjoy hiking without fear of the heat, which is rare. Above all, the skies are often clear. On the sea side, the water is cool, but you can still swim. Wind-wise, it’s one of the calmest months of the year.

6. Wind in Normandy in September
Ocean means wind. However, in September, Normandy is much less windy than the rest of the year. The coasts are as calm as the inland areas.
7. Crowds and other conditions
In September, the summer vacations came to an end. Tourists are always present, but in moderate numbers. It’s mid-season. It’s easy to book a hotel or a parking space. Beaches and hiking trails will also be clearer. Make the most of it!

8. September events in Normandy
- Deauville American Film Festival
60,000 spectators attend this event celebrating American film. Screenings take place during the day and evening, over a ten-day period.
- Off-Courts Festival at Trouville-sur-mer
In parallel with the Deauville American Film Festival, this festival is dedicated to short films. Numerous events (masterclasses, film markets, conferences, etc.) accompany the screenings.
- Rouen Cathedral of Light
Every summer until the end of September, light shows are projected onto the facades of Rouen Cathedral. The event takes place over several evenings and attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators.
- Merville-Franceville-Plage Cider and Dragon Festival
Every year, a medieval fantasy village is set up in the seaside resort. Between 70,000 and 100,000 disguised visitors enjoy performances (jugglers, fire-eaters, musicians…), craft and cultural stalls, and conferences on fantasy.
- Foire Sainte-Croix or Lessay Fair
This three-day agricultural fair has been held for almost a thousand years. The event attracts 1,500 exhibitors and 350,000 visitors. There’s a livestock festival, an equine village, the Allée des rôtisseurs and, above all, a huge funfair.
- Cider and apple festival in Rives-en-Seine
10,000 people attend the Rives-en-Seine event in September for its themed parade, concerts, tastings and other activities. Many other towns celebrate cider and apples in October and November.
- Sea festivals
These traditional festivities take place mainly between June and September, in the various coastal towns of Normandy. They celebrate the sea and its products. The duration of the festivities varies from town to town. They can be found in many towns: Le Havre, Bricqueville-sur-Mer, Luc-sur-Mer, Yport, Saint-Valéry en Caux and many more.
