This makes it a pleasure to walk straight through the city. To give you an example, the 2 must-see places during your stay are only 350m apart. Walking from Notre-Dame Cathedral to the Gros-Horloge, you&#8217;ll have plenty of time to appreciate the beauty of the historic center. The exterior of the \u00c9glise Sainte-Jeanne-d&#8217;Arc is original, isn&#8217;t it? Its modern architecture, reminiscent of the sea, appealed to us. It&#8217;s an emblematic building dedicated to the memory of the illustrious heroine. Its bold design captivated us from the moment we arrived. To build on this momentum and get our day off to a good start, it&#8217;s time to visit the historial dedicated to him. During our visit, we were transported back to her trial in 1431, during which she was tried and sentenced to death. Thanks to the museum&#8217;s immersive tour, we immersed ourselves in the history of the famous Pucelle d&#8217;Orl\u00e9ans. The historial retraces in particular the end of the young woman&#8217;s life, and her passage to posterity. This religious monument is another of the city&#8217;s Gothic masterpieces, known for its unique architecture and sculpted details. Less impressive than the cathedral, it&#8217;s still worth a visit!<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R23D-Rouen-Eglise-Saint-Maclou\/i-KFL2R4J\/1\/ad5453f3\/L\/Saint_Maclou_Rouen_Normandie-6245-L.jpg\" alt=\"Saint Maclou Church\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Next to the church, our attention was drawn to the leaning house. As we approached this iconic building, we were amused by its sloping appearance, which created a surprising illusion. The destruction of the adjoining houses led to this unique architectural feature. If you&#8217;re creative, you can take original photos of this unique place!<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R23c-Rouen-other\/i-rX8CWTN\/1\/92422a89\/L\/Rouen_Normandie-6261-L.jpg\" alt=\"The leaning house\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Hidden behind the religious building is the A\u00eetre Saint-Maclou. Access is via a passageway at 186 rue Martainville. This unique historic site is imbued with a mysterious atmosphere and macabre beauty. An &#8220;a\u00eetre&#8221; is a piece of open land and\/or a covered passageway used as a cemetery. The half-timbered galleries surrounding the inner courtyard house ossuaries and sculpted tombs. This bears witness to the town&#8217;s dark past, when it was struck by the plague. Wandering through the narrow streets of Rouen is like being transported back in time to the city&#8217;s historic heritage. We were charmed by the picturesque half-timbered houses lining the narrow streets. The city was punctuated by splashes of color, giving it a warm atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R23a-Rouen-Gros-Horloge\/i-3kLtPng\/1\/5e2de672\/L\/Gros_Horloge_Rouen_Normandie-6050-L.jpg\" alt=\"Colorful half-timbered houses  \"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Traditional and authentic, we loved exploring the Normandy capital. Don&#8217;t miss Rue de l&#8217;Eau-de-Robec, Rue Damiette, Rue Ganterie and Rue du Gros-Horloge. During your stay, you&#8217;ll no doubt have quickly passed through these different places, but you&#8217;ll need to take the time to appreciate them better.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/n-r2MKTJ\/Rouen\/Divers\/i-KD2TPk5\/0\/0576042c\/L\/ruelles-rouen-L.jpg\" alt=\"Alleys of Rouen\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>As we strolled along, we admired the unique architectural details, small artisan stores and local restaurants and caf\u00e9s. Every street corner revealed a new surprise. Take this opportunity to buy local specialties, such as &#8220;Larmes de Jeanne d&#8217;Arc&#8221;, traditional Normandy pastries made from almonds, sugar, chocolate and cocoa. You&#8217;ll have to make a detour to <a href=\"https:\/\/auzouchocolatier.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Chocolaterie Auzou in Rouen<\/a> to find some!<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/n-r2MKTJ\/Rouen\/Divers\/i-JkzFCJp\/1\/40b1d885\/L\/larmes-jeanne-arc-auzou-rouen-L.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;Tears of Joan of Arc&quot;, traditional Normandy pastries\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 2 &#8211; 3:30pm-4pm: visit the Abbey of Saint-Ouen<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>After this breathing space, it&#8217;s time to get back to the tour and discover the Abbatiale Saint-Ouen. This magnificent Gothic church is renowned for its splendor and grandeur. It&#8217;s one of the city&#8217;s architectural treasures. It is also famous for its impressive <a href=\"https:\/\/inventaire-des-orgues.fr\/orgues\/?page=1&amp;departement=Seine-Maritime&amp;sort=completion:desc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Cavaill\u00e9-Coll organ<\/a>, renowned for its powerful, sonorous sound. The end of our itinerary looks pleasant, but we&#8217;ll have to walk a bit more, or take the car or bus. We highly recommend climbing to the top of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visiterouen.com\/patrimoines\/nature\/colline-sainte-catherine-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">C\u00f4te Sainte-Catherine<\/a>. Once you&#8217;ve reached the top, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the city and observe the majestic silhouette of Rouen Cathedral. It&#8217;s a landscape worthy of a painting. In fact, Claude Monet immortalized this view in his painting &#8220;Vue g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de Rouen&#8221; (General view of Rouen), which you can see at the Mus\u00e9e des Beaux-Arts. Once again, you can walk straight down the 140m C\u00f4te Sainte-Catherine, or take public transport. To round off your stay with a pleasant urban stroll, we recommend a walk along the banks of the Seine. For admirers of beautiful boats, you&#8217;ll be aware that Rouen regularly organizes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armada.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the Armada<\/a>. Since the 1st edition in 1989, the town has hosted a gathering of tall ships, each more impressive than the last!<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 2 &#8211; 6:30-7:30 p.m.: a nightcap at Restaurant-Bar Le Jehanne<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>To round off your stay, there&#8217;s nothing like a nightcap in a unique setting! On the way to the station, you&#8217;ll come across Restaurant-Bar-Lounge Le Jehanne. The location is beautiful, and you can enjoy a view of the Donjon de Rouen from the outdoor terrace.
