Visit the Big Clock<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why visit <strong>the Gros Horloge<\/strong>?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During our stay in Rouen, we visited the city&#8217;s iconic landmark: the Gros-Horloge. Have you ever heard of this historic monument? This 14th-century astronomical clock is located in the heart of Normandy. From the street, the low-angle view of the building is impressive. The richness of the sculpted details on the fa\u00e7ade is truly impressive. The interior of the Gros-Horloge also houses a museum that allowed us to delve into the fascinating history of this incredible timepiece. We highly recommend a visit to the interior of the Gros Horloge. Many tourists only appreciate the building&#8217;s exterior, even though there&#8217;s so much to discover in its museum!  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How much time to allow<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You should allow less than 1 hour to visit this building. The Gros-Horloge has also been home to a new escape game since 2026. Admire Rouen Cathedral<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why visit <strong>Rouen Cathedral<\/strong>?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A jewel of Flamboyant Gothic architecture, Rouen Cathedral is a must-see during any visit to the city. Admirers of the Gothic style, we marveled at the church&#8217;s fa\u00e7ade. The closer we got, the more we could appreciate the extraordinary architectural work carried out on this religious building. Did you know, for example, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.normandie-tourisme.fr\/anecdotes-richard-coeur-de-lion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Richard the Lionheart<\/a> \u2019s embalmed heart was first sent to Rouen Cathedral before being stored in the reserves of the city\u2019s Museum of Antiquities?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The interior is equally magnificent. The columns and vaulted ceilings bear witness to Gothic architecture. The atmosphere in the church is peaceful. The list of great artists exhibited here is considerable. At the museum, you can appreciate the work of important figures in this artistic movement. We were captivated by paintings by Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley and the undisputed master Claude Monet. If that&#8217;s the case, you&#8217;re going to love the museum of iron art in Rouen, which is home to many strange and wonderful treasures. Housed in a former Gothic church, the Mus\u00e9e Le Secq des Tournelles is home to the world&#8217;s largest collection of antique ironwork. From signs to tools and scientific instruments, we discovered some truly unique iron objects there!<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/n-r2MKTJ\/Rouen\/Mus&#xE9;e-de-Secq-des-Tourelles\/i-qMwH3sh\/1\/6bc17ebc\/L\/interieur-musee-secq-tournelles-rouen-2-L.jpg\" alt=\"Ironwork Museum in Rouen\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What you will see<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can assure you that you won&#8217;t see work like this anywhere else! The collection spans the Gallo-Roman era to the 20th century. It features pieces from all over Europe. It was Jean-Louis-Henri Le Secq des Tournelles who came up with the idea, realizing the great potential of iron. The collection was assembled by photographer and collector Henri Le Secq, and later expanded by his son, Henri Le Secq des Tournelles, who donated it to the City of Rouen.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We highly recommend visiting this place. If you are, you&#8217;ll love the Salon de Th\u00e9 Dame Cakes. Housed in a former wrought-iron workshop, it is one of our sweet favourites. We tasted delicious home-made pastries made from seasonal produce. At Saint-Maclou, the galleries surrounding the courtyard were used, among other things, as an ossuary following the great plague epidemics. The half-timbered galleries surrounding the inner courtyard house ossuaries and sculpted tombs. This bears witness to the town&#8217;s dark past, when it was struck by the plague. We admired the architectural details representative of the flamboyant Gothic art of the period. What&#8217;s more, the area is surrounded by charming cobbled streets and lively caf\u00e9s, adding a picturesque dimension to your visit.
