He was the precursor of Impressionism, and painted many of the places in Normandy. If you&#8217;d like to find out more about him, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/normandielovers.fr\/en\/museum-eugene-boudin-honfleur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Eug\u00e8ne Boudin Museum in Honfleur<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>It was in Deauville that he built a house in 1884, where he spent the last 14 years of his life. His wish was to die facing the sea. His house is nicknamed &#8220;La Breloque&#8221;, and you can drive right past it. But Deauville has an important equestrian history, so it&#8217;s impossible not to mention it.<br\/>The town has two racecourses:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hippodrome de Deauville &#8211; La Touques<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cairefontaine racecourse<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The Deauville &#8211; La Touques racecourse was inaugurated in 1864 and takes its name from the river that runs through it. Since then, it has gained an international reputation as a leading racing venue.<br\/>The Deauville &#8211; La Touques racecourse offers two distinct tracks: a grass track and a sand track. The grass track is used for flat racing, while the sand track is used for obstacle racing. Excursions from Deauville to discover Normandy<\/h2>\n\n<p>The area around Deauville is very, very rich. The list could go on and on&#8230; Here are our 5 favorites (but the choice is very difficult)<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Villers sur Mer and the Vaches Noires<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R22h-Vaches-noires\/i-jK977SZ\/4\/6ae80d0d\/L\/Falaises_vaches_noires_Normandie-5510-L.jpg\" alt=\"Cliffs of the Black Cows\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Distance from Deauville: 20min drive plus walk<\/p>\n\n<p>Head to Viller-su-mer, to walk at the foot of the Badlands cliffs and discover the giant rocks called &#8220;black cows&#8221; because, from the sea, they look like a herd of cows.  <br\/>To be done at low tide.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cabourg and its dune<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R22f-Cabourg\/i-53rKN7Q\/3\/833b394a\/L\/dunes_Cabourg_Normandie-5343-L.jpg\" alt=\"Dune of Cabourg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Distance from Deauville: 30min drive<\/p>\n\n<p>If you&#8217;d like to see even more Belle \u00c9poque villas, head for Cabourg. We love the more relaxed atmosphere that revolves even more around the beach.<br\/>And we love the dune between Cabourg and Houlgate: a privileged natural environment.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The landing beaches<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R22e-Merville\/i-XkBLZmx\/3\/2c4d5fcf\/L\/Merville_batterie_Normandie-5279-L.jpg\" alt=\"Merville Battery\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Merville Battery<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Distance from Ouistreham (Sword Beach): 50min drive<br\/>Distance from Deauville to Omaha Beach: 1h30 drive<\/p>\n\n<p>It&#8217;s also easy to set off from Deauville for the day to discover the D-Day landing beaches.<br\/>Utah Beach is the only one that&#8217;s a little too far away, but otherwise you can see the others, as well as batteries and museums.<br\/>The nearest war battery to Deauville is the Mont Canisy battery, but it&#8217;s not one of the most interesting, so we recommend the Mervilel battery a little further away (40min).<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/normandielovers.fr\/en\/normandy-battle-sites-d-day-visit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">See all our favorite sites to find out more about the Normandy landings<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Village of Beuvron-en-Auge<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R10b-Beuvron\/i-wx8GqbR\/1\/f4c3b01f\/L\/Beuvron_en_Auge_Normandie-0691-L.jpg\" alt=\"Beuvron-en-Auge\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Distance from Deauville to Beuvron: 35min drive<\/p>\n\n<p>Icon of the <a href=\"https:\/\/normandielovers.fr\/en\/pays-auge-normandy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pays d&#8217;Auge<\/a>, the village is considered as the most typical old village of Normandy with its beautiful collection of well maintained half-timbered houses. They did a beautiful job of restoration.<br\/>It is beautifully landscaped with charming stores and flowers.<br\/>The village was first identified in the 9th century. Most of the houses date from the 14th to 18th centuries. One of Normandy&#8217;s most beautiful villages<a href=\"https:\/\/normandielovers.fr\/en\/most-beautiful-villages-normandy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(see our list<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visit a castle<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R11f-St-Germain-de-Livet\/i-JFv5vnZ\/3\/a9b2664e\/L\/chateau_Saint_Germain_de_Livet_Normandie-1257-L.jpg\" alt=\"Saint-Germain de Livet castle\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Saint-Germain de Livet castle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Distance from Deauville to Ch\u00e2teau de Saint-Germain de Livet: 45min drive<br\/>Distance from Deauville to Cr\u00e8vecoeur castle: 35min drive<\/p>\n\n<p>And for a further change of style, we recommend a visit to a museum in Normandy. Not far away, we have 2 to recommend.  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Saint-Germain-de-Livet: This ch\u00e2teau really impressed us. It&#8217;s not the oldest, it&#8217;s not the biggest (it&#8217;s actually quite small) but it&#8217;s certainly the most unique. The half-timbered part of the manor still has old frescoes on the wall, because they had been protected by plaster. And the stone and brick part has some green elements in the exterior decor, which is very rare.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ch\u00e2teau de Cr\u00e8vecoeur: We love half-timbered houses, and this ch\u00e2teau is a fine example, with its dovecote, barn and manor house. And this one combines them with medieval fortifications.
