We visited the area anonymously, making our own choices, and paying all our bills in full. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why visit the village of Beaumont-en-Auge?<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is Beaumont-en-Auge worth it?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, it is worth it.<br\/>This village does not have the quantity of half-timbered houses of Beuvron-en-Auge, but it still has some well preserved examples. Moreover, the village is located on a hillock with beautiful views of the countryside and the sea (the Touques valley). This village has an undeniable atmosphere and charm. A nice visit, near Deauville!<br\/>We were surprised and charmed.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Villages\/Beaumont-en-Auge\/i-7w4jXTL\/1\/7341436a\/L\/Beaumont_en_auge_Maison_Colombage-09-L.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is he famous?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The village is famous because of 2 characters of the history of France.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, Pierre Simon Laplace was born there in 1749. He trained in mathematics at the Beaumont Military School. His exceptional scientific work is based on celestial mechanics and the calculation of probabilities. He demonstrated the stability of the solar system. Who remembers the mathematical operation called Laplace Transform?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then, Colonel Jean-Charles Langlois. Placed under the dependence of the Abbey of Saint-Ouen, it housed 12 monks and a prior.<br\/>The place prospered and the rules of the priory were relaxed. This river flows into the English Channel<br\/>The valley is wide and rich in silt. You can also see the forest of Touques Saint-Gatien (the Paysa d&#8217;Auge was once 80% wooded).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fat grass grows in the valley, so livestock farming has been a mainstay since the 17th century. The livestock market of Beaumont-en-Auge was famous even in Paris.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Villages\/Beaumont-en-Auge\/i-6rjWrLW\/1\/56d87486\/L\/Beaumont_en_auge_panorama-6-L.jpg\" alt=\"Panorama of the Touques Valley\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Saint-Sauveur Church<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The village church is the priory church. It is freely accessible but the priory is now privately owned.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This church is really strange, built at different times. At first we were puzzled by it, observing it to understand the different parts and constructions.<br\/>It has indeed been deeply marked by wars, revolution and other destructions.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Villages\/Beaumont-en-Auge\/i-87pSLJH\/1\/1f07b40b\/L\/Beaumont_en_auge_eglise-08-L.jpg\" alt=\"Saint-Sauveur Church\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The square Romanesque tower in the center of the transept dates from the 11th century. It is covered by a pyramid-shaped frame, covered with slates.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The nave and the choir were reworked, as they were partially destroyed in 1612.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Villages\/Beaumont-en-Auge\/i-5q75xJz\/0\/a3706bb5\/L\/Beaumont_en_auge_eglise-42-L.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most surprising thing is really the bell tower. It is enhanced by colored half-timbering.<br\/>This gives it a rather unique perspective, which seems almost out of time.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Villages\/Beaumont-en-Auge\/i-9fmpWhJ\/1\/0217b3e0\/L\/Beaumont_en_auge_eglise-09-L.jpg\" alt=\"steeples of the church of Saint-Sauveur in Beaumont-en-Auge\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The underside of the tower has been taken over. Of the four pillars that support it, two appear to have been rebuilt in the 15th century and the others later. Two of the pillars have carved figures<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Villages\/Beaumont-en-Auge\/i-8qGL9Br\/1\/fc4f3225\/L\/Beaumont_en_auge_eglise-24-L.jpg\" alt=\"carved pillar of Saint-Sauveur church.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vaults of the transept also appear to be from the end of the 15th century.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Villages\/Beaumont-en-Auge\/i-5f4ncSG\/0\/d5ce6e3a\/L\/Beaumont_en_auge_eglise-21-L.jpg\" alt=\"transept\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note the flamboyant windows at each end of the transept.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Villages\/Beaumont-en-Auge\/i-Jq9c5fB\/1\/78c1c56b\/L\/Beaumont_en_auge_eglise-26-L.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The choir is of the XIIIth century with the vaults were redone. It was made by Robert Delandre in 1932.<br\/>On its pedestal, 2 medallions represent Galileo and Isaac Newton.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Villages\/Beaumont-en-Auge\/i-LztPPng\/1\/e60c999b\/L\/Beaumont_en_auge_statue_laplace-2-L.jpg\" alt=\"Statue of Laplace\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Laplace was born in Beaumont in 1749, where he received his first training in mathematics at the Royal Military School. He did a titanic work on mathematical physics, celestial mechanics and probabilities.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On this same square of Verdun is his birthplace, with a commemorative plaque. It says: &#8220;Under a modest you, here was born Laplace, he who knew from Newton how to enlarge the compass, by opening a furrow in the fields of space, made yet another step there.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you know that? This communal washhouse dates from 1841 (at least that&#8217;s the date indicated on the small sign). This was due to its famous cattle market.<br\/>Today, you can still eat in the Auberge de l&#8217;abbaye. We find traces of it since the 17th century.<br\/>One of the interior rooms is beautiful with its beams and old fireplace.<br\/>It is now a gastronomic restaurant.
