Built in the XIX\u1d49 century, it has been enlarged, transformed and restored several times. It features <strong>neo-Gothic<\/strong> elements, a <strong>half-timbered bell tower<\/strong> and five <strong>apsidal chapels<\/strong>. Originally <strong>neo-Gothic<\/strong>, it features a <strong>Norman-inspired<\/strong> half-timbered bell tower, an oak roof frame over the nave, and several <strong>apsidal chapels<\/strong> added over time, creating an original and contrasting ensemble.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Cabourg\/n-882w5N\/Eglise-Saint-Michel\/i-mdHHbxT\/0\/MZxQ8dthpGMmRSchKWR6wr9ftFRfjLf3hjhGC7TXK\/L\/eglise-st-michel-cabourg-L.jpg\" alt=\"north fa&#xE7;ade, &#xC9;glise Saint-Michel, Cabourg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Anglo-Norman bell tower<\/h3>\n\n<p>The church tower surprised us with its <strong>half-timbered<\/strong> style, rare for a religious building. We learned that these had been formed at the end of the 19th century by transforming the <strong>six side chapels<\/strong> that once stood there. The aim was to enlarge the church to accommodate the growing number of holidaymakers in Cabourg.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Cabourg\/n-882w5N\/Eglise-Saint-Michel\/i-FBs8x7Q\/0\/LqHvPbLLvH5d2CW4VS2pC5LjSwbmVTqWPrR3F97nj\/L\/nef-eglise-st-michel-cabourg-L.jpg\" alt=\"nave, &#xC9;glise Saint-Michel, Cabourg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The high oak ceiling<\/h3>\n\n<p>Raised in the 1920s to accommodate the organ, part of the nave is topped by a remarkable <strong>oak roof frame<\/strong>. It corresponds to the <strong>half-timbered<\/strong> elevation that can be seen from the outside.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Cabourg\/n-882w5N\/Eglise-Saint-Michel\/i-TwJsbng\/0\/KQRZR9Lv2gxVkL26JFXG24pkKwM8WvQ7HLJ7bsz32\/L\/plafond-eglise-st-michel-cabourg-L.jpg\" alt=\"ceiling, &#xC9;glise Saint-Michel, Cabourg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Colored stained glass<\/h3>\n\n<p>We loved the bright hues of the stained glass windows and their <strong>geometric motifs<\/strong>. They were replaced after the destruction of the Second World War.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Cabourg\/n-882w5N\/Eglise-Saint-Michel\/i-sb3h59V\/0\/LVbWtqnHt6KtWZDhR8RnXjCmhGKGdtd4XwzkzMJMc\/L\/vitraux-eglise-st-michel-cabourg-L.jpg\" alt=\"stained glass windows, &#xC9;glise Saint-Michel, Cabourg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Cavaill\u00e9-Coll organ<\/h3>\n\n<p>It is the reason for the modification of the nave. His story intrigued us. It was a<strong>&#8220;salon organ<\/strong>&#8221; that the canon of the late 30s was able to acquire and was eager to see installed in the church.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Cabourg\/n-882w5N\/Eglise-Saint-Michel\/i-JCcgSsC\/0\/KgFwKzVrDSXHdNpSJ73MKWFGmzFp65djqsGfg9nX3\/L\/orgue-eglise-st-michel-cabourg-L.jpg\" alt=\"organ, &#xC9;glise Saint-Michel, Cabourg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The carved pulpit<\/h3>\n\n<p>In the oldest part of the nave, the <strong>carved wooden<\/strong> pulpit catches our eye with <strong>its refined motifs<\/strong>. It illustrates the attention to detail and the importance of the spoken word in liturgy.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Normandie-Lovers\/Cabourg\/n-882w5N\/Eglise-Saint-Michel\/i-JwXscHZ\/0\/L9F2qMb78g4NsJWRbBZd7rzfnwKWhc75vtcBs9WRm\/L\/chaire-eglise-st-michel-cabourg-L.jpg\" alt=\"pulpit, Saint-Michel Church, Cabourg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The ambulatory and the 5 apsidal chapels<\/h3>\n\n<p>Added in 1880, the <strong>ambulatory<\/strong> and <strong>five radiating chapels<\/strong> extend the choir. There&#8217;s a small parking lot in front, and another across the street.
