We found it superb. Built on a sacred Gallo-Roman site, it was transformed many times over the centuries. Although the abbey was stripped of its riches during the Wars of Religion, today it has other treasures! You&#8217;ll appreciate its medieval architecture and elaborate interior decor. The gardens are not to be outdone. The nave and its high white vaults transported us back to the grandeur of the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The exceptional chapter house<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R17c-Boscherville\/i-ffwDZZP\/4\/Mp823bZ2djRgVjNFJSm2GGqKPFq4r9DP4gdSWmMPC\/L\/Abbaye_saint_Gorges_Boscherville_Normandie-2867-L.jpg\" alt=\"Abbaye Saint-Georges de Boscherville - Sculpture in the chapter house\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>This room, also known as the chapter house, served as a meeting place for the monks. It is distinguished by its finely sculpted decorations and beautifully crafted capitals. We also loved the colors of its stained glass windows.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Huge gardens<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R17c-Boscherville\/i-DzmcLKF\/4\/LrLRxvLMrGNGFBF2VPWTSRH8Xs45r5PXTXTQwM5Hx\/L\/Abbaye_saint_Gorges_Boscherville_Normandie-2876-L.jpg\" alt=\"Abbaye Saint-Georges de Boscherville - Garden, pruned bushes\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The abbey is surrounded by over 6 hectares of gardens. Restored, they have now regained their food-producing, medicinal and ornamental functions. The landscape is sublime. Take time to admire it.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An orchard and vegetable garden<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R17c-Boscherville\/i-HfvjjRX\/4\/MrkdjPx2xtxzcz98DcSJwb8mMrbJcHpb6GGC83V7s\/L\/Abbaye_saint_Gorges_Boscherville_Normandie-2886-L.jpg\" alt=\"Abbaye Saint-Georges de Boscherville - Orchard\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>We strolled through the leafy orchard, which promises plums, apples and pears every summer.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A medicinal garden<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R17c-Boscherville\/i-q3htwbm\/4\/MH2vn6cdTwjpmgr28VZdffjf5bMvgGmzjRTXCnR7k\/L\/Abbaye_saint_Gorges_Boscherville_Normandie-2923-L.jpg\" alt=\"Abbaye Saint-Georges de Boscherville - Ricin plant\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>There are also areas dedicated to medicinal plants. For example, we have recognized the castor-oil plant, which produces an oil with a wide range of virtues.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Italian-style terraces<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R17c-Boscherville\/i-xBX66Kr\/4\/LsdJQCQf6VfZtvPVv9DJns83TZMRbs7gJ9jjL5h9V\/L\/Abbaye_saint_Gorges_Boscherville_Normandie-2912-L.jpg\" alt=\"Abbaye Saint-Georges de Boscherville - View of the stone terraces\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Elegant Italian-style terraces lead to the rest of the garden. Take a stroll or photograph them. These stone ladies are photogenic. We found the results conclusive!<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">French-style flowerbeds<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R17c-Boscherville\/i-cHR44Tr\/4\/MVf8VLRfzk898DTWwddsqpKJk34SVm7zfjxhrn94z\/L\/Abbaye_saint_Gorges_Boscherville_Normandie-5758-L.jpg\" alt=\"Abbaye Saint-Georges de Boscherville - View of the garden and forest\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>One part of the garden stands out for its symmetry, the famous parterres \u00e0 la fran\u00e7aise with their geometric shapes, which we have often seen in the parks <a href=\"https:\/\/normandielovers.fr\/en\/best-castles-normandy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">of the ch\u00e2teaux of Normandy<\/a> and France!<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A promising vineyard<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R17c-Boscherville\/i-74zmQrr\/4\/NMHndZqQCXBzdnzhht4jmFfqZ5hpQXXWB5R3wVPMt\/L\/Abbaye_saint_Gorges_Boscherville_Normandie-2894-L.jpg\" alt=\"Abbaye Saint-Georges de Boscherville - View of the abbey behind vineyards\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Vines complement the gardens, promising a rich harvest! That&#8217;s what we did! Find <a href=\"https:\/\/normandielovers.fr\/en\/renting-car-rouen-train-station\/\">all our tips for renting a car in Rouen here<\/a>, the nearest big city!<\/p>\n\n<p>Rouen is just 12km away, and you can get there easily by taking the D982. From Paris and Caen, take the A13, then the D67.<\/p>\n\n<p>Parking is available in front of the abbey. The little town is also accessible by train!<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visiting difficulties<\/h3>\n\n<p>The site is quite large. Plan to walk a little to explore it. The soil also varies and may be strewn with small gravels. We recommend you bring comfortable shoes. We also saw staircases leading to the Italian terraces, showroom and boutique. However, the gardens are accessible to wheelchair users.
