(Cape Fagnet)<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cap Fagnet is one of our favorite stopovers along the <a href=\"https:\/\/normandielovers.fr\/en\/cote-albatre-normandy-alabaster-coast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alabaster coast<\/a>.<br\/>Located just north of F\u00e9camp, it offers :<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A view of the town of F\u00e9camp, its beach and the cliffs on the opposite side<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beautiful views of the high white cliffs sculpted by the elements &#8211; to get there by car, the direct road from town is reserved for residents only and ends in a cul-de-sac, so you have to leave F\u00e9camp to get there by car.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>But you can also get there on foot from downtown (be careful, it&#8217;s a steep climb) &#8211; 30min<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Toilets near the parking lot<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Short walk from the parking lot to the tourist sites<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A flat path all around<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allow 30min to admire the view or longer to sit and relax<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always be careful. Do not walk to the edge of the cliffs, they are not very stable. He vowed to build 3 chapels: La D\u00e9livrande in the city of Caen, Notre Dame de Gr\u00e2ce in <a href=\"https:\/\/normandielovers.fr\/en\/things-to-do-honfleur-normandy-france\/\">Honfleur<\/a> and Notre Dame du Salut in the city of F\u00e9camp.<br\/>After its construction, this one in F\u00e9camp became a rich priory. A part of the surrounding wall can still be seen.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R18cc-Cap-Fagnet\/i-DDWS73H\/2\/33a4927f\/L\/Cap_Fagnet_Normandie-3564-L.jpg\" alt=\"Chapel of Our Lady of Salvation Cap Fagnet 2\" title=\"Chapel of Our Lady of Salvation Cap Fagnet 2\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The more recent history follows:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the 16th century, the chapel was partially and progressively destroyed by the wars of religion. The roof of the nave disappeared and then, the vault was about to collapse.<br\/>It was saved, not as a religious building, but as a useful recognition point for sailors, because it was located on a cape.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When walking around the cape, be aware of the noises. Sometimes you can hear three horns blowing from a boat. They are reinforced with concrete.<br\/>Due to the strategic location of this cape and with a port to defend, the navy built a complex including:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a lookout post with a direction finder for shooting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a Mammut bunker<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a light shelter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>several positions in Tobruk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R18cc-Cap-Fagnet\/i-v5DTM9s\/2\/313b67e3\/L\/Cap_Fagnet_Normandie-3575-L.jpg\" alt=\"Cap Fagnet Fecamp Blockhaus\" title=\"Cap Fagnet Fecamp Blockhaus\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The &#8220;Mammut&#8221; Bunker<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a special bunker. It was built to include a Mammut radar antenna, used for long range detection.<br\/>It was to be installed on a V143 bunker. However, in 1944, the installation was not completed.<br\/>But you can still see the bunker with its 3 concrete blocks above which the radar antenna was supposed to be positioned (a very large antenna, you can see a drawing on the explanation board on the site).<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R18cc-Cap-Fagnet\/i-7cDNxN2\/2\/ba0e1aed\/L\/Cap_Fagnet_Normandie-3576-L.jpg\" alt=\"Cap Fagnet Fecamp Mammut bunker\" title=\"Cap Fagnet Fecamp Mammut bunker\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other radars were to be installed around the Mammut radar. For example, the bunker below was for a Freya radar.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are many other defensive elements to see around the area. I let you explore and discover them (for example the Tobruk bunker and its holes). Explanatory panels have been installed.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" A portion of the walking path may be closed.<br\/>Looking north, all you see is a wall of cliffs. This is very impressive.<br\/>Always be very careful. Do not walk to the edge of the cliffs!!! The cliffs and pastures are perfect for birds looking for a nesting place.<br\/>Depending on the season, you may be able to spot them:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Northern Fulmar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the Great Cormorant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the herring gull<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Black-legged Kittiwake<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the great black-backed gull<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R18cc-Cap-Fagnet\/i-7GPs2Q6\/2\/8e810ed4\/L\/Cap_Fagnet_Normandie-3596-L.jpg\" alt=\"Cap Fagnet bird reserve\" title=\"Cap Fagnet bird reserve\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A wind farm<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Above the site, you will also notice the wind farm.<br\/>The region is very windy all year round. I recommend that you bring layers of clothing. You never know what the weather will be like.<br\/>This is one of my favorite views. Wonderful!<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Normandie\/R18cc-Cap-Fagnet\/i-RWf6THh\/2\/458ed2f7\/L\/Cap_Fagnet_Normandie-3604-L.jpg\" alt=\"Cap Fagnet cliffs Alabaster coast\" title=\"Cap Fagnet cliffs Alabaster coast\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tab-con-8\">Semaphore and GR21<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cap Fagnet is located on the GR21 hiking trail that runs along the Alabaster coast (179 km, for about 9 days).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last building you can notice on the Cape is the Semaphore. It was first built in 1906 under Napoleon I. It was established for defense purposes to detect any potential threat arriving by sea.<br\/>Today, it is managed by the French Navy (Marine) and has different surveillance roles such as assistance to navigation or regulation of maritime traffic and fishing.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\"
